Big news! Pedal Point goes full-time on accessibility!

Issue #14 • 06 May 2025

Hi Reader.

Big news from Pedal Point HQ: I’ve officially transitioned to doing digital accessibility work full time! I've dreamed of striking out with Pedal Point like this for years, and now that it's happened, I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm awake.

It’s an absolute blast to have the freedom to focus all my energy on teaching, equipping, and collaborating with people to make the web a more inclusive place. Whether I’m engaging clients, delivering trainings, or rolling up my sleeves to fix barriers, this work has never felt more meaningful — or more fun.

If you’ve been wondering how to make your website more accessible, I’d love to help. Let’s connect!

Speaking at Woburn Connect

I'm super excited to present about growing your audience with an accessible website at the next Woburn Connect event. If you're in the Boston area, I hope you'll join me for this high-energy gathering hosted by the Woburn Chamber of Commerce.

The WebAIM Million: Then and Now

The web is slowly getting more accessible—but not fast enough. Each year, WebAIM scans one million home pages for accessibility issues. I’ve pulled the biggest insights from the 2024 and 2025 reports so you can see what’s improving, what’s not, and what it means for your website.

Accessibility around the web

  • Pledge for Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) 2025 - Equalize Digital
GAAD 2025 is coming up fast. Join the fine folks at Equalize Digital in celebrating by pledging your time to improve accessibility in WordPress. Whether you’re a developer, designer, content creator, or site owner, your skills can help make the internet more usable for millions of people with disabilities. Even one small fix—like adding alt text, fixing heading levels, or improving keyboard navigation—can make a big difference.
  • Accessibility Support website

Issue #23 • 3 March 2026 Hey Reader. Accessibility is deeply personal. As someone who is blind, I live that reality every day. Lately, I’ve also been struck by how powerful accessibility solutions can be for the people closest to me as their lives evolve. My mom has been dealing with leg and back pain that limits how far she can walk and how long she can stand. A few months ago, we visited a specialty walking and running store to explore more supportive footwear, though she wasn’t quite sure...

Issue #22 • 06 January 2026 Happy New Year, Reader! January always carries a quiet promise. A fresh calendar, a little extra light returning, and the sense that what we choose to invest in now can shape the year ahead. For me, 2026 is beginning with deeper roots in the disability community, and that feels like exactly the right place to start. This month, I’m stepping into several volunteer roles that align closely with Pedal Point’s mission to help people learn, practice, and experience...

Issue #21 • 9 December 2025 Hi Reader. Amazon's recent Black Friday color scheme was an interesting departure from holiday norms -- white text on an orange background (color hex code #F76201). This felt bright and cheerfully perched between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but it also fell short of WCAG's minimum color contrast ratio for normal font sizes which likely made elements in its header navigation harder to read for many visitors. The company has since updated its palette to a...
